IIFA 2002– An Oriental Odyssey
In its third year, the IIFA journey went eastwards to the Orient, towards the
exotic Genting Highlands Resort, Malaysia.
The IIFA Weekend started with a Press Meet. Attended by the stars, the event
received extensive coverage from world media.
The same evening saw the music launch of Kaante. The IIFA Karaoke Party gave
film stars and high-profile guests a chance to let their hair down.
Participation was the order of the day.
Malaysia witnessed the first ever IIFA Forum. The focus was on the emerging
perspectives of Indian Cinema, the exchange of technology and talent. The
speakers included Ashutosh Gowarikar, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Madhur
Bhandarkar, all nominees for the IIFA Award for Direction category.
IIFA hosted the World Premiere of Aankhen at the Genting International Showroom.
Yet another star-studded evening unfolded. Aankhen is being remade as a
Hollywood blockbuster.
As the Awards ceremony drew closer, even as the sun dropped into the horizon,
the Arena of Stars dazzled with stars walking down the red carpet. Former Miss
Universe Lara Dutta anchored the celebration. Amitabh Bachchan returned to the
stage with a war cry: “The Game Begins Now”. Performers for the star-studded
evening included Sushmita Sen, Isha Koppikar, Remo Fernandes and Bardot among
others.
As the night carried on, Indian Cinema dazzled like never before.
